Talvin Singh "OK" (1998)

Ah, yes! Talvin Singh! Ok that is! An album which I love a lot and an album where you will find two tracks that I cannot stand at all :) To tell you the ruth. it's one of the best out there. Yes, 10 years old sounds still sound fresh!

What makes it so special, then? With one sentence - it's dnb and tablas!
Ok kicks off with Traveller. An excellent track lasting long enough to think that you are already listening to the third track on the album. I still think that mixing dnb with the sounds that an orchestra can produce, is excellent. I still think that it is possible to mix Asian and Western sounds, classical and modern sounds, English and Indian vocals ...etc. What Talvin does is exactly what I like. He's mixing classical sounds with modern beats and he's very good at it!
Traveller is rather sad track, but Butterfly sounds a lot happier music. Again, the same tablas and dnb and asian instruments mixed together. I don't know why, but Butterfly reminds me of Karsh Kale and his sounds. There's something similar.
Third track Sutrix is more like a hardcore track. Heavy dnb beats plus melodic sounds makes it a good party track.
A track called Ok, like the name of the album is very intensive. Just like the album as a whole! Lots of instruments and lots of power in it!
Light is a track which is worth its name. Soft sounds mixed with tender dnb. Very good background music. I totally forgot to listen to the track, because it makes you think on other things. After a few minutes you find out that the room is silent, the album has finished playing in your cd-playerand you are already doind something else.
After two a bit sad songs Disser/ Point Mento B and Soni, the last track Vikram the Vampire is again very powerful! Starting rather quietly, but ending in techno music. Of course, this is a very intelligent techno music with tablas, percussion, piano and all kinds of sounds from our planet.

All together a very good album with a very different dnb music and not only!
