When I started listening to Indian related music I wasn't a big fan of Asian Dub Foundation. Music sounded nice, but I didn't like the vocal part. Now, few years later I find it ok and I like to listen ADF. But just to be sure that I really like this band, I bought older album. Lets see if I still like it after introducing it ;)
Community Music is eight years old album. Filled with juicy rock-tunes made by London based indian background artists and not only by them. It's the kind of music that gets you going. You listen to it and soon you'll be in a dancing mood. It seems they have lots of energy in their songs and it would be nice to see how they perform on live stage.
Their third album starts with rocking breakbeat sounds in Real Great Britain and continues throughout the album. I really don't know how to call this sound, but it consists of electric guitar sounds and breakbeat tempo which is a uniqe way how to make music!? Vocal is really important in their tracks and it feels somehow quite offensive which maybe I didn't like before. But this is of course my problem here.
One of my favorite tracks on this album is Riddim I Like (Youtube link). This is a summer track I say! Just the track I would listen driving a car somewhere in a countryside, relaxed and happy, enjoying summer sun through an open side window. It's not as aggressive as the other tracks, but it's got this funky sound and the change of the tempo and the melody is just the way I like.
Another thing with ADF is their lyrics. A good example from my second favourite track Colour Line: Racism and imperialism work in tandem
And poverty is their handmaiden
I mean, you can agree or disagree with these words, but the thing is that they don't only sing about "love you babe, kiss me babe, make me wet babe" thing. They have their opinion and it is an important part of their music - their message, their thoughts.
Finally, last track Scaling New Heights is excellent chill music. No vocals, just nice slow beat and some Indian instrument+drums+electronic sounds. Something very appropriate for the last track on this album!
This album is thoroughly very good! Yes, I still like it! It's different, it's groovie, it's powerful and last but not least, makes you want to dance eyes closed and feel the rhythm: )
