There aren't too many Asian-British artists that an average Estonian knows. Talvin Singh performed in Estonia few years ago and some know Nitin Sawhney. Latest star is RJ Productions with his excellent 526.
Panjabi MC is something that almost everybody knows. Mundian To Bach Ke was a real hit in Estonian radio stations and it's one of the rare occasions when Top-40 radio stations played Bhangra music. That's why I think I should have started this blog from Panjabi MC. Well, better late than never, right?
The Album kicks off with Mundian To Bach Ke and continues with Mirza Part 2. MP2 is is a somewhat sad Indian-rap music, which has got beautiful flute sounds. I don't understand a thing the man is singing about , but it doesn't matter, because it's the melody that makes me want to listen to it again. The album continues with Jatt Ho Giya Sharabee and Ghalla Gurian. First of them does not impressme much. Ghalla Gurian opposite to it is a track to listen at home while insence stick is buring and you're enjoying your tea, for example. Great vocal, flute and percussion sounds. A very genlte track indeed!
Sixth track Jogi is also very well known for everybody, just like the first track on the album. Still a very good Asian-British fusion!
Eighth track Challa is nice and slow. A bit like r'n'b and very nice for slow dancing moves. Something for late dancing session at the night club. When I'm going to make my first Asian Underground party, this is the track I would play, also Jogi and for nostalgic moments, Mundian To Bach Ke.
Overall, I like this album and despite of few less interesting sounds, it's a good . Filled with different tracks, so you don't get bored from it. Panjabi MC's album is one of the "must have" albums!
